i went to the circus last night

This is my big debate….for the same amount of money per month, do I get a membership at a luxury gym, or the local leisure centre. I know, it sounds like an obvious choice, but the luxury gym is a yearly membership, whereas the leisure centre is monthly…no commitment so if I want to quit during the summer months, I can…sigh…

I went to the circus on Wednesday night with Kate, Horacio and Aleksandra, and it was so much fun. Of course, I’m talking about Cirque du Soleil, as Quidam rolled in for a short run at the Royal Albert Concert Hall (what a magnificent place to see a performance). Although they’re a little too militant there – I understand that you can’t take pictures during a performance since you could blind a performer and kill them. But you can’t take pictures of the hall during intermission? Really?

In all, the show was pretty good. Not their best work, but it had its moments. I can’t stand the contortionists though…blah, And the tumblers had to attempt their biggest tumble/trick because the first time failed. And when I say failed, I mean that one of their tumblers tumbled down from about 24 feet up…luckily, his spotters broke his fall, and after all that, the crazy mo’fo’ attempted the trick again. Here’s the scoop. On one side, you have a man, standing on top of the shoulders of another man, who is standing on the tops of the shoulders of one other men. THEN, another tumbler gets flipped up whilst doing 3.5 twists triple sow cow, whatever the hell, so that he lands on top of the shoulders of the topmost man…so effectively, he is standing up as high as 4 men’s body lengths.

Did I even come close to explaining that correctly? Lucky for you…I found a pic

Anyhoo, the guy on top fell…and when the went to redo the move, one of the guys on the bottom asked for a substitution (I think he felt a bit weak…and he was a giant of a man).

But before ALL of that, we went for dinner at this great French restaurant called Cote Bistro, off Kensington Court and Kensington High Street. WOW – great food. And at a three course set menu at £12, it was a great deal. I had this warm lentil dish, with lardons (fancy term for pancetta/bacon), croutons and veg, followed by a grilled chicken salad with Roquefort and walnuts, followed by crème brulee. And then Aleksandra and I split a bottle of wine, so I was feeling pretty good when we got to the Royal Albert Hall.

Today, I’m at the Bracknell office and it is pretty sweet. And they have a canteen/café. And wireless. And floor to ceiling windows. And cute co-workers.

Too bad Bracknell isn’t for young single gals without cars who want to be tourists on weekends.

On a happy (or sad?) note, I won’t be blogging for a week. I leave for Canada on Saturday (yay) and don’t plan on blogging til I come back. Although I might squeeze one more in before I go. Tomorrow night is Robbie Burns night, and we’re going out to celebrate!
