me and scotland really love eachother.
yet another fantastic weekend with the sister. we got up early on the 6th (her actual birthday) and decided to head out to Ballater for lunch. ballater is the home of the old royal station where royalty would travel to and from Balmoral Castle. lunch was pretty damned great. we had fish pie of course...yum! i think fish pie is my favourite new meal. we thought we'd go for a walk near Balmoral, but because it was closed (opens in April) we didn't see much. a small car came out the gilded gates, but to be completely honest, there wasn't any royalty in the car. i highly doubt any of them would be caught dead in a peugeot.
we head back to aberdeen for a thai feast at bhan thai where we feasted on the tiger cry and panang chicken. thai food rocks! the best was when some guy came over to hit on us and said he'd take our photo (see below). gina and i being the nice canadians we are participated in idol chit chat, but avril took the piss out of him. he was cheeky, she didn't like it, so she let him have it. what you like????
saturday night was absolutely fantastic. we started gina's birthday party/night at Cafe 52 where we absolutely FEASTED! i had the cullen skink, fish pie (of course), and blackberry cranachan with lavender shortbread. mother of god...yummy! i sat next to one of my favorite scotsmen, Bill Buchan. Gina works with Bill and i first met him 4 years ago - what a great guy.
we ended our night at Babylon, where we danced like demons. great tunes!
although we were hungover today, we did manage a visit to the ashvale. it used to be our fave fish and chip shop, but we have a new one to try...Hess's. check it out if you're ever there.
