when i first booked the place, it seemed quite nice and expansive. great neighborhood, clean cute little places, and man, does it ever photograph well. but here's what you don't know about the hyde park suites...
- the blonde whatever she is receptionist at night is a bi-atch - she seriously thinks she's better than you. to be fair, there were 2 guys there that were very helpful so they're not all bad. but if i see a serious case of bad bleaching in front of me again, i will be tempted to kick her sir.
- the shower was freezing, then boiling, and today, i finally got the perfect temperature. in fear of moving the wrong tap, i will have to be a touch OCD in the mornings so as not to disturb.
- they keep the back door open in my building so its 24 degrees in my flat, and -24 in the hallway. i'm always freezing then boiling. it is terrible.
- a 2 range hob. seriously? how can i cook with 2 elements?
- thin walls and thin windows, which for the first 2 weeks meant little rest. but i'm getting my revenge...oh ya, those f*ckers who sit out front and have a smoke at 3 am, yelling in their language (see, i told you this city could make me a racist...i'm coughing 24/7 and its a loud barking cough...i bet they don't like me so much now!
- the straw???? i went home early yesterday (actually, i was sent home) and it took forever because the stupid circle and district lines were having problems (again) but when i finally got home, i crawled into bed, and 30 minutes into my sweet relief, i hear a knock on my door. i croak out 'yes' and i hear 'towels?' and i say 'no thank you, i'm fine.'
there's a pause. one minute later a knock 'towels?', and a little more annoyed this time, i say 'no, i'm ok. i'm in bed.'
there's a pause. one minute later a knock 'towels?', and a even more annoyed this time, i say 'i'm in bed. i'm trying to sleep. go. away.'
then she opens the door.
CAN YOU BELIEVE IT!
i roll over and said 'dear lord, i'm trying to sleep!'
'oh, sorry' she says and throws the towels on my chair, backing out.
of course, i couldn't get back to sleep.
I got up (since i couldn't sleep anymore) got ready and went to my new home to pick up the key. And my fabulous new roommate took one look at me and knew i was sick (i soon learned she works for NHS and her sister is a GP) and she made me tea, and said convincingly 'just go back, pack up some clothes for the week, and come here. you have a king sized bed waiting for you, its quiet, and here, take some of these drugs my sister recommends as they will kick your cold's butt'.
i went home, warm, able to breathe, and i slept so fantastically well. sigh.
so today, i will do my last load of laundry and pack up...tomorrow, i move early, and get the rest of my stuff latah!
as for hyde park suites...forget it. if you want something similar, stay at base2stay. way better.
