i can't believe i'm wearing a skirt with just a sweater

the weather this week has been nothing short of beautiful...yay...spring is just around the corner with only a few sleeps to go.

the last couple of days have brought some new discoveries and adventures. its been a while, so i'm happy to blog about something other than a boring every day life. well, except for one thing. i finally found a salon (and for you women out there, you know what i'm saying). rush in wimbledon is pretty good and my new stylist linda is just like kamala back home. whew! although one misadventure did happen with my hair. i was pulling out a pin and ended up pulling a significant amount of hair out of my head resulting in a small-ish diameter bald spot. hopefully it grows back. ha ha

i then proceeded to watch michael essien lead my blues into beating man city. suck on that robinho.

as for st. paddy's day, i spent it with my flatmate dee and her friend christine where we had dinner at tas and then went to see Dancing at Lughnasa at the Old Vic.



Tas is technically a chain restaurant, but the food was extremely tastey. We went to the on on The Cut since it was down the road from the theatre. We opted for a Mezes menu where we had Humus, Tabule, Ispanakli yogurt, Zeytin Yagli Bakla, Zeytin Yagli Patlican, Borek, Kisir, and Felafels. Top that off with some red wine, a lemonade (aka Sprite) and then bailey's on ice and I was ready for bed. that being said, we still had a play to go to.

the old vic was founded in 1818 by the actor William Barrymore as the Royal Coburg Theatre. In 1833 it was renamed the Royal Victorian Theatre after the heir to the throne Princess Victoria. In 1880, under the ownership of Emma Cons, it became The Royal Victoria Hall And Coffee Tavern and was run on "strict temperance lines"; by this time it was already known as the "Old Vic". blah blah blah....The Old Vic is one of the oldest theatres in London and famous throughout the English speaking world. Long known as "the actors' theatre", many of the greatest performers of the last century have played on its stage, including Laurence Olivier, John Gielgud, Sybil Thorndyke, Edith Evans, Peggy Ashcroft, Alec Guiness, Vivien Leigh, Ralph Richardson, Michael Redgrave, Peter O'Toole, Judi Dench, Maggie Smith and Kevin Spacey. blah blah blah ...In 2004, Kevin Spacey was appointed as new artistic director of the Old Vic Theatre Company receiving considerable media attention.

Last night we saw Dancing at Lughnasa. it was well done and i haven't seen such great set and lighting in some time. the play was performed in the round so everone had a great view of the stage. somewhat like they syringa tree, there is a large (mostly dead) tree that monopolizes the stage and that was some of the best faux turf i have seen, with clovers and blooms and everything. then of course, we had the interior of the house, distinguised only by the tile flooring (not quite sure that existed back in the 30s, but i can overlook a few things. the play takes place in the middle of summer and you can feel the warmth of it eminating from the lighting. it was beautiful. my flatmate was excited that andrea corr was in the play, of the corrs for those of you who may not know the band. in north america, they got some recognition for their song breathless.

so there you have it - a new restaurant visit and another play...this week is going to be full of them. gina's coming to stay tomorrow and we're going to see a play on saturday, then i have another on tuesday. so excited. i love plays. even more than scotch.
