friday night we were back in fine form as we head for the water poet where we celebrated the launch of our colleage Michael Lacquiere's book Spurs' Cult Heroes. i'm going to buy one and get it autographed. its not often someone you know gets a book published!
after many pints of honey dew organic english ales we head to brick lane in search of a great curry. we ended up at a bengalese curry place called bengal village that promised a free round of drinks if we went in. free booze = a big OK! besides, all curry tastes great whilst under the influence. although i'm not certain how much michael (my new flatmate not the writer - the only guy in the picture above) tasted since he ordered the lamb vindaloo. the guy turned red, was sweating, and for a while there i thought he was going to pass out. i also had lamb...garka lamb to be precise, along with some sag aloo. to be frank, i like the curry joint across from my flat at marylebone. much better food.
from there we went to 93 feet east where upon entry the men were patted down and our bags were searched. best part was when kate said its not like i'm going to go crazy with my laptop, upon which the bouncer told us about a fight where the laptop came out and was a weapon. best part was he said it still worked when all was said and done. ha! afterword, when the music wasn't up to snuff and the live band was to loud, we head off to some random euro trash lounge (called exit) that actually had great music and good vibe. too bad about the bathroom smell.
saturday was a lovely afternoon spent with hannah in holburn/covent garden with cream tea at patisserie valerie. we went to octopus where i saw the coolest egg timer. i'm considering it...might be too cute to pass up. we also stopped at the canadian shop where i bought some crystal light and a coffee crisp at black market prices. but it was a necessity. i believe in crystal light cuz i believe in me!
later that night, the same group from the friday went to stara polska (the 'menu' picture was our table). the food was very very good. so was the vodka. aleksandra was in her glory. i loved how she said everything in polish. and when i went to order my diet coke, she ordered for me...in polish. i felt like i was in a country where i couldn't speak the local language. i laughed hysterically.
this is what we ate:
and about 6 shots of vodka of which alek (our server and owner?) gave us a free round at the end and he drank with us too.
afterward we went to ayoush to have some moroccan mint tea with strawberry shisha in a hookah. it was a nice end to the night.
tuesday brought us to the prince of whales theatre to see mamma mia. but first, a stop for cakes at candy cakes in covent garden. i had a banoffee one. it was yummers but couldn't eat all the icing as it was too sweet. some of us (not me!) actually managed a cake and a milk shake. dear lord! then afterward bim, aleksandra and i head to see mamma mia (finally)
i think perhaps i waited too long. don't get me wrong, i had a great time with the girls, singing and dancing along. but after the meryl streep/colin firth performances, the stage didn't quite satisfy. that being said, its still a great show to go see!
i'm currently in tetbury. can't imagine much happening while i'm here, but who knows. there could be two posts in one week. can you imagine????
