ok so since my visit home last christmas, gailbaxter and i decided we were going to go on a road trip. well, it started off as a road trip where we mapped out a route of driving for a 2-3 week holiday across europe. a dream of mine...to scamper across some of europe's prettiest countries in a convertible mini cooper. well, then i started pricing out the cars. turns out, it wasn't so cheap to rent a car in calais and drive through france, spain, italy, and switzerland. especially since neither of us could drive a stick. so we switched gears (ha ha, get it) and decided to train it!
then we realised that training isn't the best option when you don't feel like back packing and hauling your luggage around all over the place. it was an easier concept when you were driving but the training was just too pedantic for the type of holiday we were looking for. so...we started booking flights. oh well, we started off with the best intentions.
the trip began with gailbaxter's arrival in london where she toured around during the day and we'd spend the nights together when i was done work. the highlight of our evenings was on wednesday the 15th when we decided to hit up avenue q. yes, i'd seen it before but there's something fun about going with someone who just loves that kind of non pc humour. before hand we sat ourselves down at the window seat at busaba eathai on panton street, right next to the smaller odeon cinema that was preparing for a red carpet. we were perched over the guests as they arrived thanksgiving parade style so gailbaxter and i decided to have red carpet commentary, for our own show affectionately titled M.E.T. (mean entertainment tonight).
we dissed, we cajoled, we were blatantly mean, and our server (a former he and now a stunning she) had a great time mocking some UK celebrity (i've already forgotten her name and nor do i care to remember) for barely being able to stand (and therefore rock) her louboutins. if you have to ask what those are...then you'll never get M.E.T.
it was like having a starbucks on 17th avenue across from melrose in calgary...the comments were that easy to dish out if you know what i mean. the uk version of 'trailer white trash' was at its best.
the movie, by the way, is called 'the kid' starring rupert friend (also known as mr. keira knightley) who couldn't be bothered to show up. the movie must be that great. but here's the highlight. mercedes after mercedes delivered people we neither knew or recongnized, until an addison lee mini cab showed up...then there was a pap frenzie the flashes were going ballistic. i jokingly turned to my cohost and said 'its probably kylie minogue' and then we paid up, left and enjoyed our musical.
the next day on the tube, i checked out the entertainment section and to my amusement, pics of the opening night were there. well one really...of kylie minogue.
