Happy New Year

I'm down to the last 40 minutes of 2008 and wow - what a year. things happened this year that i never thought i'd see...and yes, i'll bring up obama, but man, i moved to london!

i just got home from no man's land, and wow, what a cast. michael gambon, david bradley, nick dunning and david walliams. now, its always cool to see a star in a play, but to have four...that was pretty powerful.

no man's land is a harold pinter play, and if you know who that is, you also know he sadly passed away last week. a writer for stage and screen, an actor and a director, love or hate his material, you have to respect the body of work. this play, like many of his, is so complex that it's simple...if you get my meaning. the play starts with hirst (gambon) and spooner (bradley) having a drink...both alcoholics, but hirst way more than others. you see hirst living in his own personal hell and bradley prattles through dialogue to fill in the silence, and of course, its rather entertaining text. then enters foster (walliams) and briggs (dunning), his man servant(s) and maybe they are lovers too, not sure...and they immediately are suspicous of spooner and why he's befriended hirst....long story short, the play ends as it begins, with drinks, and a declaration that they are stuck...in no man's land.

it was pretty damned good. gambon, was as expected, brilliant, and bradley blew me away. what a master of the stage. this was walliam's first real west end performance and for someone who is used to doing very risque comedy, he held his own. and man alive, in person the man is stunningly beautiful in a suit! HOT DAMN!

the play ended way sooner than i thought, with the second act a mere 20 minutes and i along with others in the theatre spilled out onto charring cross road. and holy.cow. i have never in my life seen that many people all in one place. now, i've seen crowds, but i haven't seen anything like this before.

leicester square station was for exits only, so those of us who wanted out of central london had to walk to picadilly (not that far really) but when you're dodging literally 2-3 million people, it takes a long time. cops were everywhere, on horses, bikes, foot and in towers. people were being searched, eating, drinking, screaming and having a ton of fun. i finally got on a train and got home in time to open my tiny bottle of bubbly, write a few thoughts and get ready to call my loved ones to wish them the best in 2009.

my new year resolution?

now that i'm hear, to take every opportunity i can and run with it...what more should i ask for? so what's your new year's resolution?
