Yves Tanguy's The Invisibles

Wilfredo Lam's Ibaye

Joan Mitchell Number 3
I thought that during this bank holiday, I'd go check out the Tate Modern Museum, and this is one thing I've learned. Contemporary art isn't really my thing.
I don't want to dis any of the art, because clearly its of extreme value to be housed in the Tate Modern. There were many wel known artists there - Jackson Pollock, Pablo Picasso, Francis Bacon, Rothko, Monet (which I do love), but it was the artists that I didn't know that took my breath away.
So on my way out, I was very excited to stop at the shop because I wanted to buy one of three (if not all) of my faves as prints, I was so enamoured with them. And lo' and behold...they weren't available for print. Nor as post cards. I was not amused.
The Invisibles by Yves Tanguy is I think, my favorite new piece of art. The colors are just so beautiful (blue of course), and I stared at it for a long time. It was soothing to look at.
Another new favourite is Wilfredo Lam's Ibaye. Again, the colors are very earthy browns and creams, but there's nothing taupe about this painting!
My last fave, unforutunatley doesn't have a picture to go with it. It's a Joan Mitchell painting, Number 12. I was able to find a screen cap of Number 3, which has a similar look, feel and mood. Again, I had never heard of her, and though I'm not too keen on her stuff, I really liked Number 12.
So after several hours, my tummy started to rumble and I realized I would have to do another floor in another day. Lucky for me, entry is free! I head out to Clapham Junction to check out the shops, and the sales here are unbelievable. 70% off most items, and I'm just itching to shop, but so much of it is seasonal wear, and the line ups just to purchase these items is phenomenal. So I checked out Clapham, then head home to sleepy Wimbledon. I'm exhausted.
Tomorrow, I'm going to attempt the National Portrait Gallery. I really want to see the Annie Liebowitz exhibit before its gone. I was debating Warhol, but after today, me thinks I'd be bored. Some of you are cursing me, but hey...whatevah!
