Sorry for not blogging for a couple of days, but I’ve been busy. And sick. Blah.
It took two days, but I finally brought enough stuff in my small suitcase via the tube to my new digs in Wimbledon for me to officially start living there. It was very exciting, especially since I had 6 pieces of mail. A card from Kiki and a card from Fran, and all is good. The other four came from HSBC – and I tell you, they mail you about EVERYTHING. Luckily we recycle in my new home. Yay – blue and green boxes. Now if only Calgary would catch up with us!
I sat on a couch, I had tea, and I watched Grey’s Anatomy. I honestly don’t think any of you quite understand how fantastic that was. Just to have a place to lounge. I was in
pure heaven. So much so that it has been the only think lately to pull me away with my other time taker…Twilight.
Madison got Twilight for her birthday and I thought I might as well read what she’s been reading and let’s face it, laineygossip.com has been chalk full of twilight lately and the big noise about Rob Pattison too. To me, he is Cedric Diggory…to the rest of the world, he’s the brooding passionate and pained Edward.
Ok, I like the book. It’s actually quite a good and easy read and I can definitely see why Madison would love it too. If I were her age, I’d be all over it because really, don’t we all want what Edward is offering: the pouting, the angst, the forbidden love. It doesn’t matter how you package it, we love a tortured soul. We want to save them – we can make them better (truth is no, you can’t…I found out the hard way).
As with any writer, though, Meyer makes her own things up about vampires and fine, its her artistic license and she’s making millions from it so who cares. So, my picky self is attempting to let go of some real obvious errors and some major rolling my eyes moments, but whatev. When I read that she was a graduate from Brigham Young, the naivety of a 107 year old vampire virgin became clear…not necessarily acceptable, but I now know why she wrote the way she wrote. And good on her! Virginity is getting a bad rap and girls are rushing too quickly to become women.
I love though how this story resulted from a dream the author had one night, because I get so much creativity from my own. The vivid detail, intricate feelings and emotions, and a compelling story come to me every night of which I’m eternally grateful. Except lately…I’m not dreaming, and I miss them desperately and I think that is why, perhaps, I haven’t been able to write anything creative.
Life without dreams. That’s not a life at all.
So its time to bring the dreams back and I’m going to do that first by having a piece of cheese before bed. If Dickens thinks a bit of cheese can inspire Scrooge’s ghosts, who knows what I can do for me!
I'll take pics of my flat this weekend and share soon!
