so i just got back from taormina in sicily and thought i'd blog it day by day...well as much as i can. otherwise it'll be the longest post EVER.
so aleksandra, bim, kate and i took off for our beach holiday to the resort town of taormina in sicily. we were extremely excited and i think the flight was agonizingly long for all of us...but we got there in no time and it was a great feeling to be hit by intense heat and humidity walking out of the airport and into our mercedes van waiting to drive us to our hotel. the drive to taormina was very dark but only a mere hour away and then BAM, we were there, driving up the winding roads to hotel condor.
and i have to say, if you ever go there and want a basic, clean and EXTREMELY helpful hotel...stay in hotel condor. its very modest but these people will bend over backward for you...but i digress
we got there quite late but after sitting for so many hours, we went for a walk to check out the main corso. even though it was past 11 pm, people were still out and we could window shop (a precursor to the spending spree that was imminent). of course, we went to furla and for the first time in a long time, we found bags we loved. then we went for 'dinner'...so essentially i ate my first of many gelatos (banana with nocciolla).
so we packed it in for the night so we could be well rested for our first day of beach. marcello our hotel host showed us the best route to walk down to the beach so we figured...what the hell...let's go for it.
after some pretty dodgy steps, we reached our first beach - stolkholm. very nice beach, around 31 degrees, and the water was quite refreshing (that's niceties for it hadn't reached its warmest temperature yet). it was so nice to just hang out with the girls. lunch was pennette al norma and....gelato (vanilla)! ha ha.
taking it easy for the first day, we head up to the hotel, showered and then hit the main corso again and sauntered through tiny streets, piazzas and found a tiny restaurant bearing the 'giovanni' name where i indulged in some verdure mista and veal scallopini...mmmm....dessert was....GELATO. yes, you read that right...within 24 hours, i had 3 gelato (almond and cafe).
it was time for bed because we had an early morning ahead of us. we needed our breakfast, and we were going diving/snorkelling/beaching. yay!
i'll blog the other days later...so tired from a late arrival last night. but if you want to peek ahead you can see some more pics here.
mmmmmmmm gelato.........
ReplyDeletei miss the gelato......
every so often piper asks when we can go back to get some "real" gelato....

b
