ok, i'm calm now

amazing how angry i got....

ok, i have a few days to catch up on i'm afraid! well, i'm not really afraid but you know what i mean!

now you know that i normally don't blog about work but i had a great day at a green unplugged conference in london where i met some cool environment people. now i'm not talking tree huggers, granola eaters that only wear hemp and think of anything but home grown organic food is the devil. i'm talking about professional people who understand why the world is the way it is and try to make some changes by showing people why instead of shaming them into it. if that makes sense. my fave person that i met is one of the co-founders of dothegreenthing.com. if you have some time, check out the site and watch some of the videos. my faves so far include gusty and ford, touching the stairs, and meet green thing. enjoy them!

that week is somewhat of a blur as i did things like see prince of persia (not bad, that jakey did well), and dee came to town so we went out with her former work mates to navajo joe in covent garden. wow, are their mojitos ever potent.

but of course, the highlight of the week was friday...my come dine with me night with dee as my surprise guest along with her cousin ciara (pronounced key-are-ah) and caroline. and this is what i served:

  • snacks with some prosecco (smoked mixed nuts and chilli puffs). the chilli puffs disappeared, i do love those things
  • hot and cheesy spinach and artichoke dip with nachos (with more prosecco)
  • pulled pork sandwiches with caesar salad, cole slaw, pickles and corn on the cob (guess what we drank....)
  • frozen key lime pie

the girls jokingly said to me...ok, so you just won with the first meal of round two. but i think not. they talk down their culinary skills but i know better!

saturday brought us to the sweet charity matinee (see previous post for my royal haymarket theatre experience). the play, fortunately, was fun and got us tapping our feet and singing along. many people don't think they know sweet charity, but if i were to say to you 'hey big spender' and 'if you could see me now' then chances are you have heard of it before.

afterward we were supposed to go to criterion for a fabulous meal then to a pub to watch the england vs. usa game...but we had an hour to kill before dinner and found some amazing seats in front of a flatscreen. so...we told criterion (after the called me, mind you) that it was impossible to get into picadilly (even though we were around the corner), we ordered platters of fried food and pints of beer, called up some mates (4 to be exact) and had us a grand time at the pub. of course, the result could have been better but what can you do?

on the sunday the 13th, my neighbourhood had the annual marylebone fayre...so much fun and literally at my doorstep. dee and i took a stroll down the very crowded and packed with stand after stand high street where we bought replicas of the dior ring, marylebone monopoly (how could i resist - the money went to teenage cancer care), we ate muffins, hog roast sandwiches (along with stuffing, cracklin and apple sauce), and spices. i know...spices. but wow, the park behind my flat had a stage set up and they had bands playing all day...very cool. they turned the parking lot that's normally the farmer's market on the weekend into a midway and i felt for the first time, like i was a part of this community. what a great way to end the weekend.

just this monday, i got a delightful text from marcie januska. in my previous life in the theatre, marcie and i both worked at alberta theatre projects, so the fact she came here and had a few hours to spend with me over pints was very welcome. i even skipped watching the dismal italy game, but hey...pints with an old friend trumps the divers and complainers any day.

then last night, i went and saw that scottish play at shakespeare's globe theatre. talk about bloody...dear god, everyone was gushing stage blood all over the place. and the witches actually freaked me out.

so that leaves me to today, wednesday june 16...sitting at home quiety and thanking my lucky stars for a quiet night.

although, did i say quiet? looks like caroline will be moving in for a couple of weeks...her flat has flood. we'll have a grand time!
