a sad day for england

hello all! sorry i've been MIA but what can i say? i struggle to find everyday life interesting enough to write about but i'll see what i can do.

so last we spoke, dee was here and i had my come dine with me....hmmmm.... just kidding. of course i did stuff. its what i do!

life since june 11 has been mainly about one thing: the world cup. at work we have all the games on the tv screens so there was always someone in the canteen (3 screens to choose from) and then things got real interesting in the third round of the group stages because we could have both games on either of the 3 tvs, and then on the 3rd tv we had wimbledon on. then to top it off, at reception, we'd have the other wimbledon game on. crazy! but on the 23rd, the office had one big party to watch the England/Algeria game and it was a lot of fun. namely because we won and moved into the group stages (although today germany kicked our asses so you know...its now all over but the crying).

its fun to be in a city that is so into the world cup...i mean, its like calgary during the stanly cup finals (and i'm talking finals) but it goes on for one month total, and there are 2 games (and in the beginning, 3) every day. your life revolves around where you're going to be for what game. you schedule meetings around the games and work bizarre hours so you don't miss out on any of it. its amazing.

as we saw today, england just didn't have what it took to beat germany. i'm so disappointed. the defence was terrible...what was JT thinking? i blame him. and the absent wayne rooney. and lamps' bad luck with disallowed goals and that bloody post. oh well, there's always euros 2012. not sure if they'll be around for world cup 2014.

so kate and i were feeling nostalgic last weekend and we made our way to epsom. oh sleepy epsom - what a lovely little town. we went to our fave italian joint (alio's) for a capuccino (only £1.50 for a gigantor cup), and kate dropped some coin in tk maxx and wilkinson. i miss wilko's! we rounded out our perfect afternoon at the marquis of granby for a spritzer, some pub food and home we went! our bank accounts a little lighter than when we left!

this weekend was amazingly hot (yay) and there was lots of sun worshipping to be had. i picked up the white tiger and grabbed a blanket and a pillow and spent most of my saturday in the park behind my flat. it was such a lovely day! then today...the day england lost...we were in london fields for an afternoon bbq and then off to royston's to watch the game. the miserable result led us back to the park for a second bbq (ya, a second one) and we drank our blues away.

so here we are...the end of the week. no england in the world cup and i'm bound to lose my world cup pool. well, except for one because out of a hat, i picked....germany. so i could potentially win some money. who knows!
