deirdre-palooza was in fine form this past week...but monday started with me in a dentist chair. it was time for a check up and cleaning and i wasn't looking forward to it. my usual 9 month visit had been delayed by a further nine months so i thought the hygienist was going to massacre my gums. thing is they do things differently here. check up was fine (yay - no cavities) but the cleaning....she took a power wash to it (normal) and scraped my front teeth (normal) but everything else was ignored. it was weird. i kept waiting for more torture and then suddenly...she was polishing my teeth. i thought...what? where's the tiny daggers? where's the flossing for me? where's the cotton candy flavoured fluoride treatment?
i got over it pretty quickly. :)
it seemed though that the week was geared up for friday night's leaving party for dee as she had booked the italian restaurant casa becci near our flat. maybe 200 metres i'd say. it was a great time...she filled the tiny restaurant with about 40 people, and boy did they drink. i say they as i paced myself rather successfully. the come dine with me girls came and we announced the first season's winner (dee) and she was given the come dine with me crown, sure to circulate as long as we're doing the cook off. i still claim dee won on pity points and not because she hand made everything and came out with a near perfect score (39). the walk home was eventful. it took 20 minutes to walk something that normally took 2.
the next day was torture (well morning anyway) and we 'monged' the whole day away. dee in bed and me on the couch watch my blues kick some FA Cup arse. but by 4 we were on a train to twickenham to see leinster play the london irish at the rugby heiniken cup. dee's brother brian came down from dublin with some friends, and her brother david brought even more so dee, caroline and i found outselves outnumbered but having a lot of fun. i didn't even pretend to be able to keep up with them when it came to the pints. we sat 3 rows back from the pitch (practically sitting on it if you ask me) and us gals were distracted by the big burly men. wow...they are fit.
the night ended up at the william webb ellis meeting up with more friends with more drinking and dancing. i was so happy that the last train going back to london was approaching cuz i really wanted to sleep!
sunday had me taking a trip to notting hill for some lunch with hoho, ola and a new friend named menno. not sure if its one 'n' or two...but we found a galacian restaurant called...galicia. very yummy food. i love chorizo al vino - seriously my favourite dish. and although i really enjoyed the paella, i enjoyed the rice stuck to the bottom of the paella pan. what's that called again hoho? and at gelato mio, to round out the lovely afternoon, i had me a bit of mandorla gelato. sweet mother of god i love that stuff.
so we're in the final stretch of deirdre-palooooooooza. i'm going to miss that girl! although my liver will be pleased. at least i get to go see her in dublin!
